Blue Bell Bride and Horse Photography

Blue Bell Bride and Horse Photography

We were lucky enough to be asked by our friend Michelle to come along to one of her shoots with her friend Kira and two of her horses Sparkle and Paddy. Kira was married last year but unfortunately did not have the opportunity to include her two horses in the pictures. So what better excuse to find a handy wood with some bluebells and dress Kira up in her wedding dress. Everything started well, although Kira suggesting I keep away from the back feet should have been a clue. Once we got to the woods it soon became clear that these magnificent creatures have a mind of there own and you need skill and experience to handle them properly. I offered to hold the reins of Sparkle while Kira got changed and unfortunately my foot got in the way of her hoof.  As I danced up and down turning the air blue and shouting in pain I realised I had learnt a life lesson. As a note for anyone considering playing “footsie” with a horse, my advice is not to consider it. Fortunately, there was no harm done and we continued the shoot. I really enjoyed the shoot and Michelle, Dee and myself got some lovely pictures. I thought that Kira looked amazing and with the added bonus of the bluebells, the woodland and the horses, it wasn’t difficult to get some great images....

Wedding Details – Horsham

Wedding Detail Hello from Singularis Photography, today I am going to speak about an important aspect of weddings. Of course I am talking about photographing the details and decorations on the day. An important part of my job is to tell the story of the events during the day and that includes highlighting the efforts made by the couple to make their day unique.   I have found that couples approach this aspect of the day from various different angles. Some people employ professional companies to supply goods and services, while others use the skills and assistance of friends, family or their own talents. Whatever route they take it’s always a surprise and a pleasure to try and record those details in an imaginative and creative way. One of the advantages of photographing these details, is that I can often use the natural light to try and capture the atmosphere without using flash which can sometimes affect this aspect.   Another thing that I often try, is to take pictures from different angles or highlight important aspects of the detail. It’s important as a photographer to notice small details and if this can improve the picture, or show aspects of the object that might have been missed at first sight.  It’s great fun to look at an object and notice colour, shape or form and then explore how the light falls and try and take a creative picture. Obviously, the priority on the day is to record the people and most importantly the couple who are getting married, however showing these details is an important part of the story...

Wedding Photographer – Horsham

Practice Practice Practice For me, one of the most important things a photographer can do is to practice their craft. Sometimes, it’s to easy to stay in your comfort zone and keep to poses or styles that you know will work, add that to the pressure to get things right for the client on the day and I am sure that we can understand the attraction. However, as photographers it’s vital that we maintain our skills and improve our work. One of the ways I do this is by using professional models in a styled shoot, and I find there are a number of advantages to this. Professional models tend to be relaxed, confident and experienced in front of a camera, this in turn gives me confidence and increases the likely hood of obtaining a good image. They tend to have experience of posing, including positioning of their body and hands, this serves as a foundation to work on and again is a great help. The better models are used to working with a wide range of photographers and so will often collaborate and come up with good idea’s to help you. They are often skilled at make up, very useful when funds are tight or you can’t get a make up artist. A styled shoot gives me the freedom to try new idea’s, as well as experiment with different lighting in different locations. Most importantly, it gives me the freedom to make mistakes, lot’s and lot’s of mistakes. It does not matter if I mess up the focus or the exposure on my own shoot, that’s a luxury...

Childrens’ Photography – Bella and Jos Toys

Bella and Jos Toys Hello from us at Singularis Photography based in Horsham West Sussex, check out our latest blog about our photographic session with Bella and Jos. Today I am going to speak about a shoot we did last weekend with Vikki from Bella and Jos toys. Now for those of you who don’t know she is based in Horsham and sells gorgeous wooden toys from around the world, but rather than taking pictures of the toys on their own, she wanted some pictures of children actually playing with and enjoying the toys. Fortunately for all of us she has some lovely friends who let us use a large light airy room, not only that but we were able to borrow some of her friends children to act as models. Saturday Fun  So on the day myself, Dee and Vikki had lot’s of toys ready and all that was required was to add children. For those of you looking to take up photographing young children, there is no better experience for a photographer looking to capture natural shots, if they are allowed to relax and in this case play with toys. Now obviously the purpose of the shoot was also to show some of the range of toys that are available, so there was a degree of asking our young models to sit on cars and scooters. However, while I was doing this Dee was taking natural light un-posed pictures. The other thing to remember is that children can sometimes become bored or restless, so the Mums and Dad’s were on hand to look after them, entertain or...
Happy New Year

Happy New Year

For my first post of 2016 I thought I would post a picture of Batman, for no other reason than its quite a dramatic picture. The man concerned was actually employed by another shop in Horsham for publicity purposes and walked past the Pop up shop in Swan Walk. His costume was so realistic that I had to get him in front of my camera inside the shop. It’s also an excuse to add something to the blog as it’s been several weeks since I last added anything. My somewhat feeble excuse is that we were busy inside the shop, in fact this shot was taken with a small mobile studio I set up in the shop for every Saturday in December. We had a Special Offer for a Christmas shoot for £15  for a 10 x 8 mounted print and as it was such a bargain we had quite a few clients. As a Portrait Photographer in Horsham there is no better way to show people a little sample of what can be achieved by a simple lighting set up, a few silly Christmas props and some children with their parents who are willing to have some fun. Our month in the shop is now over and I can honestly say that it was a real pleasure. Not only did we work with a great bunch of other business people in the shop, but it was an opportunity to get to know potential clients as...
Pop Up Shop – Swan Walk Horsham

Pop Up Shop – Swan Walk Horsham

It’s been a while since my last post and the main reason for this has been because we have been so busy. We had a wedding fair in October in Christ’s Hospital in Horsham and we have spent the time since then on shoots and getting ready for December. The reason for this is because during the month of December, Singularis Photography have arranged a space in a Pop Up shop in Swan Walk Shopping Centre in Horsham. For those of you who have not heard of the concept,  we share space within a shop premises along with several other companies. This gives small businesses and entrepreneurs an opportunity to showcase their products or services and raise their profile within the local area. We are situated next to Wilkinson’s with a large frontage facing towards the centre and started on Monday. It’s been a steep learning curve for myself and Dee but the sheer hard work and effort to get ready, will come as no surprise for those of you who work in retail. However, come Monday we opened properly and now have a display, along with several other traders. I have attached a photograph of our first efforts on Monday, however as time goes on this will evolve and improve throughout the coming weeks. It’s unknown territory for us, but so far we have had positive feedback and it’s been a pleasure to speak to people and get to hear what they want from a photographer....
