Family Photographs at St Mary’s Church Horsham
Family Portrait – Hello from Singularis Photography, today I thought I would update my blog with one of our recent family shoots that took place at St Mary’s Church Hall in Horsham. We were asked by the Turner family to take a portrait of all of their siblings together with their Mother and Father. This was a total of 15+ people aged from 1 year to slightly older and required a few organisational skills as well as a bit of space. From a technical point of view it’s always interesting lighting a large group of people and we had fun, positioning people to the best effect.
The other issue is to ensure that everyone is relaxed, looking happy and feeling their best. It only needs a couple of people blinking or looking uncomfortable, but when you look at the picture afterwards it’s the first thing you notice. I always try to make the process as much fun as possible and hopefully that comes through on the pictures. At no stage was the word Cheese mentioned during the process.
Sophie and Alex Engagement
The other aspect of this shoot was the fact that my niece Sophie was present with her boyfriend Alex. Now Alex had involved me in a cunning plan, as in asking Sophie to marry him after the shoot and wanted me to record the moment she (hopefully) said yes. Now I have to admit that this was a first for me as I have never recorded the actual big question before, but after thinking of the practicalities I said, go for it.
The plan was to complete the official family shoot and then at a pre-arranged signal I would ask to take a few pictures of them both whereupon Alex would seize his moment. I am not sure who was more nervous, me trying to record the moment, or Alex actually asking, however Sophie said yes and I managed to get some photographs which I think show the emotion of them both.
