Damzel in Distress

Damzel in Distress

So there I am, an easy Saturday morning snoozing in bed when my phone rings, it’s Leila the make-up expert who helped me on the Severndroog shoot. The jist of the conversation was that her own studio styled shoot that day, including 4 models and a flower specialist was in jeopardy as her own photographer had been taken ill. Having been in that position myself I know that sickening feeling in the pit of your stomach when you realise that all of your plans are at risk. So the next thing I know I am driving to Greenford in West London to lend a hand and see if I could help. Well, all I can say is that what a pleasure it was. It was a beautiful sunny day, after a short recce I found a nearby park and I thought, why stay in a stuffy studio when you have nature, tree’s, flowers etc. Leila worked her magic with the make-up and Daxa the same with the flowers, I only then had to take the model’s over to the park and see whether I could do the same. The wind and the bright sunlight was a problem, but with a bit of work and the fact that all the model’s were so professional, meant that we managed to get some rather nice pictures to show of their work. Many thanks to our Leila and Models, Lauren Attwood, Porsche Soraya, Zuzana Bednarova and Lauren Christina Blanchette and also Daxa Patel from Flora and Spice...

Severndroog Castle – Wedding Shoot – Part 2

Hello, it’s Singularis Photography here with the second blog about my shoot at the castle last week. Having now gone through all the shot’s and processed them I thought I would share some of the pictures and maybe even try and explain what I was trying to achieve. The interior of the castle itself is actually not that large and takes about 20 – 30 people in each room. This means that for those getting married there has to be a bit of lateral thinking with numbers and movement of guests. In addition when it comes to the photographs, my brief was to try and show the potential and beauty of the building with the natural light and magnificent interior. Always remember that this is probably the only “castle” in South London and comes with loads of character and history. As I mentioned in my previous shoot I was trying to have an 18th Century feel to the pictures so after Lisa and Leila completed the hair and make-up, it was time for Carl to do his best Poldark impression  and for Chelsea to put on the corset and pannier’s for the dresses. They were both enthusiastic and we were all really working hard to try and find the best light and position within the building. Did we succeed, well obviously I am going to say yes, but it is up to the client and others to judge. I like to think that we tried something a bit different and that we did our best....

Severndroog Castle – Styled Wedding Shoot

Hello from Singularis Photography, as I mentioned in my previous post I am in the process of completing a number of styled shoots at Severndroog Castle. For the second one I decided to do an 18th Century themed shoot, the reason being that the castle was built in 1784. I always wondered what people would have worn in those times, after a bit of research I also thought, why not do an homage to Poldark as well. A few phone calls and a visit to the Royal Shakespeare Company soon enabled us to source some authentic clothing for that era. However, there is no point in making the effort with the clothing without also seeing if we could do the same with hair and make-up. Step forward Lisa the Hair Fairy and Leila our make-up guru, who worked their magic on our female model Chelsea. For those of you who think that photography and modelling is all glamour, I have enclosed a few behind the scenes pictures that show what goes into making things work and trying to achieve the look you want. It’s a team effort and reflects the work that goes on before I press the shutter. In my next post I will show the results of everyone’s efforts, however this is just a quick post to thank Lisa  www.hair-fairy.com and Leila www.makeupbyleila.co.uk   also my great models Chelsea Baker and Carl Owen.  Also a big thank you to my business partner Michelle Fry and last but not least my partner Dee....

Severndroog Castle – Wedding Shoot

Hello from Singularis Photography, Wedding and Portrait Photographer for West Sussex. I was fortunate enough to be asked to photograph a styled shoot for the Severndroog Castle Preservation Trust in Oxleas Wood. The Castle was built in 1784 and has been a local landmark and is now a listed building. It has only recently been re-opened after 25 years and the trust are keen to show the unique aspects of this stunning building, in particular it’s use as a wedding venue. Although the castle rooms are not large they have been beautifully renovated and each level is unique. In addition this must be one of the few wedding venues where you can actually go up to the battlements as it were, and look over spectacular views of the whole of London. My brief is to show the potential for this venue and so the plan is to shoot 3 different styled shoots to show the variety and flexibility of this building. On the 18th March I shot the 1st set of my photographs with my 2 models, Jess and Jack in a formal classical style. I have enclosed a few of the pictures and hope that I have captured the quality of the light and beauty of the interior. The next shoot at this venue will show a different aspect of this magnificent building with contrasting clothing and new models. I am fortunate that the trust will recommend me as a preferred photographer and I can’t wait to show how this lovely building will compliment their...
